SECURA Announces New Coverage for Loggers

Loggers Insurance Agency announced today that the SECURA Logging & Lumbering Program now offers coverage for Limited Pesticide and Herbicide Application which includes insurance coverage for application of fungicides to prevent Annosum Root Rot Disease (ARR).

Loggers Insurance Agency was first approached about this coverage by Master Logger Aaron Burmeister who has the first John Deere stump treatment system used in the United States. Burmeister uses the system to spray pines stumps during the harvesting process to prevent the spread of ARR. The same spray system can also be used to apply herbicide to kill invasive species such as black locust. No insurance company was offering the coverage for loggers so Loggers Insurance Agency approached SECURA. SECURA has approved the coverage for loggers insured under the logging and lumbering program. The loggers must be licensed applicators and must comply with federal, state and local laws which apply to pesticide or herbicide application.

The SECURA logger insurance program provides innovative insurance coverages to protect businesses in the forest products industry in Wisconsin and Michigan and throughout the Midwest. SECURA pioneered "downtime coverage" which provides protection for rental reimbursement for both logging equipment and log trucks. Other coverages include some of the highest insurance limits available for cross cutting losses or fire damage liability. SECURA offers insurance discounts for approved safety training and Secura offers a 20% discount to Master Loggers.

The SECURA program is currently available to GLTPA members through Loggers Insurance Agency and Mauck Insurance Agency. Mauck has partnered with Loggers since 1998. Mauck offers the program to GLTPA members in the northeastern corner of Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, while Loggers Insurance Agency covers the remainder of Wisconsin.
