July 1, 2011 Windstorm in Northeast Wisconsin

For landowners with damaged woodlands from the July 1st windstorm in Northwest Wisconsin the link below can help you find the resources you need for a successful. It includes a great article on Managing Storm Damaged Woods adapted by William Klase, UWEX Educator. The July 1st, 2011 windstorm occurred across Polk, Burnett, Douglas and Bayfield counties and left many landowners with major damage to their woodlands. Harvesting (or salvage) of blown down timber is critical to reduce insect problems, encourage regeneration, and reduce fuel loads for wildlife potential.

Lost Load of Logs Caught on Dash Camera

During a vehicle inspection near Moose Lake, MN a Statte Trooper's dash camera was recording as a log truck passed by the intersection of County Line Road 8 and County Road 61 and lost half of its load. The video is a great example of the importance of proper load securement. Fortunately, no one was injured, but it doesn't take a lot of imagination to think of all the terrible types of accidents that could have happened.
